Levelling may be an ideal option if your floors are worn. Many people choose levelling when taking over commercial spaces with floors that are too damaged to simply install new flooring over existing flooring. Self-levelling concrete flooring is an option that addresses both the aesthetic and safety requirements of a space.
Two types of self-levelling concrete are available for your residential or commercial space. When you work with the ESS Canada team, our concrete experts will help you decide the right approach for concrete repair and restoration at your location. The first option is something self-levelling concrete overlayment.
Sometimes referred to as toppings, overlayments provide endless options for choosing finishes. This is the option to choose if you want a one-of-a-kind "finished" floor that truly defines the look of a space. Overlayments can be dyed, stained, and polished to meet your aesthetic goals. Overlayments are also very amenable to aggregate applications.
The second option is an underlayment floor. Unlike overlayments, self-levelling underlayments are not designed to serve as your finished flooring. They are instead intended to provide a smooth, flat surface that can be used as a base for installing floor coverings. Typically, self-levelling underlayments are used in conjunction with hardwood, tile, sheeting, and epoxy coatings. Underlayments provide a quick installation that allows floors to be walked on within just three hours. Following the underlayment process, new flooring can typically be installed within 24 to 48 hours.
When performing concrete levelling services, all self-levelling concrete materials need to be installed over a substrate that has been properly prepared. Typically, a process that involves either diamond grinding or shot blasting is used to prepare the substrate. Prior to moving forward, the substrate undergoes tests for both moisture vapours and relative humidity to prevent moisture-related issues that will compromise the bond of the primer coat. The application process can then begin.
